All my Icons are painted
in the Byzantine style using traditional techniques. To make sure that my Icons are done in the Byzantine
tradition I look for available cartoons and do research to find ones that reflect the best examples. I prepare my wood panels
with hide glue, linen or cotton and layers of gesso. After transferring the drawing or cartoon, the board
is scribed and the pure gold halo and other areas are applied. The colors are layered from dark to light
using many thin coats of egg tempera. Finally, the finished Icon is protected with varnish.
